Vanport was the first sawmill to kiln dry metric sized timbers for the Japanese market outside of Japan back in 1991. Our timbers are dried to 16% MC to the core to improve their stability in accordance with the needs of our more quality conscious customers. Vanport also does some custom drying for the domestic market on occasion when we have excess kiln capacity. Our attention to detail and high quality standards makes our kiln dried timbers some of the most sought after in the Japanese market.
In 2007 Vanport installed solar panels on 3 of our old South facing dry kiln chambers that we now use for dry storage. The energy generated by these solar panels help power the fans for our kilns in accordance with our company’s global desire to reduce our carbon footprint.
